Warner Bros. has now set an official release date for the upcoming DC movie, "Aquaman," starring Jason Mamoa.

In a report from Deadline, it was announced that the studio has scheduled to release "Aquaman" in theaters on Oct. 5, 2018. DC's latest offering is directed by James Wan, who also helmed movies in other genres including "The Conjuring" and "Fast 7." It will be released both in Imax and 3D.

"Aquaman" will begin production next year in Australia. The plot, as previewed by Warner Bros. last year, will follow Mamoa's titular character as the "reluctant ruler of Atlantis, caught between a surface world constantly ravaging the sea and Atlanteans looking to lash out in revolt."

In the DC comics lore, "Aquaman" was first introduced to readers in the early 1940s as the king of Atlantis. Part of his origin story tells that Aquaman is born half-human as Arthur Carry and half-Atlantean.

As for the feel and tone of the movie, director James Wan offered that fans should expect for a 'swashbuckling action adventure'. In a report from Collider, he said:

"I kind of don't want to give too much away but know this: The spirit that I'm going for is like a classic sort of swashbuckling action adventure, sort of high seas adventure story...It's ultimately a quest story in the spirit of Raiders of the Lost Ark meets Romancing the Stone."

The film also stars Amber Herd as Aquaman's love interest, Mera and Willem Defoe as the villain Vulko.

Mamoa, who's been known for his Dothraki role on HBO's "Game of Thrones," made his "Aquaman" debut on "Batman v Superman." He will reprise the role on the upcoming "Justice League," which was scheduled for release on Nov. 17, 2017.

Other upcoming big screen adaptations of DC include "Wonder Woman," "The Flash, Shazam," "Cyborg" and "Green Lantern."
