"Z Nation," Syfy's post-apocalyptic zombie series, has been officially renewed for a fourth season.

In a report from The Hollywood Reporter, it was announced that "Z Nation" Season 4 will also be composed of 15 episodes. No official premiere date has been set, but the cable network is eyeing for a 2017 release.

The early renewal of "Z Nation" comes ahead of the show's third season's finale, which will air on Dec. 16. The series has been a strong performer for Syfy on its Friday night timeslot, averaging 1.2 million viewers under the 18-49 demographic. To this end, the renewal no longer comes as a surprise as the show regularly ranked among the top 10 most-watched scripted shows that air on cable.

Created and executive produced by Karl Schaefer, "Z Nation" follows a team of everyday heroes during their epic struggle to save humanity from a zombie apocalypse. It stars Kellita Smith (The Bernie Mac Show), DJ Qualls (Supernatural) and Keith Allan (Rise of the Zombies), Anastasia Baranova (the Darkness), Russell Hodgkinson (Big Fish), Nat Zang, Matt Cedeno (Devious Maids) and Emilio Rivera (Sons of Anarchy).

Season 3 of "Z Nation" opened this fall with Warren's group taken prisoner by a new enemy, while also forewarning a showdown between Murphy and Warren. Its upcoming episode titled "The Siege of Murphytown" will finally tackle this awaited face-off. As the official synopsis teased, "Warren leads an attack on Murphytown and finally faces off with Murphy."

"Z Nation" Season 3 Episode 13 "The Siege of Murphytown" will air on Friday, Dec. 2 at 9PM on Syfy.
