It's been quite a while since the last "Tomb Raider" film has been released. Now, reports have surfaced that another film is in the making and it serves as a reboot. More than just being an action adventure film, the game's protagonist Lara Croft will be searching not just treasures in ancient ruins, but also her father.
Based on reports from HeyUGuys, "Tomb Raider" film reboot producer Graham King explained about the film's narrative, describing that it will be Lara's "back to the roots story."
"This is a young Lara Croft in search to see if her father is dead or alive," said the producer. "So it has a very emotional part to it, and I think that's what Alicia [Vikander] found so interesting about it."
It was mentioned earlier this year that the "Tomb Raider" film will be casting Oscar winner Alicia Vikander ("Ex Machina") to portray Lara Croft, according to Warner Bros. and MGM. With it being a fresher take to the heroic archaeologist, Vikander mentioned that her version of Lara Croft won't be the same versions from previous ones - including Angelina Jolie's portrayal back in the 2000s - but taking more inspirations from the Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics' 2013 reboot of the franchise, "Tomb Raider" and its sequel "Rise of the Tomb Raider," according to IGN.
Vikander mentioned that the character from the latest entries in the franchise is more well-rounded and will start fresh with a new origin story.
Richard Croft, Lara's father, has appeared back then in the first film of "Tomb Raider" that starred Jolie. He was portrayed by actress's real father, Jon Voight.
The upcoming reboot for "Tomb Raider" will be out in theaters by March 16, 2018.
