Dirk Nowitzki said that he believes Dallas Mavericks have a future star in Harrison Barnes who contributed well in the beginning of this season. Barnes leads the team in points per game.

Barnes leads the scoring with average 22.9 points per game in 38.1 minutes in his first year with the Mavericks. However Dallas Mavericks started the season with the worst record 2-8.

Despite their bad record, Nowitzi said that he sees Barnes as the future star of Mavericks as reported by Sporting News. Nowitzki is still sidelined due to his achilles problem he suffered in a game against Portland Trail Blazers on No. 4. In his absence, Barnes steps up in the offense

“He has the complete package,” Nowitzki praised Barnes. ”He’s shown us moves that are very impressive, not only shooting the ball, but driving the ball, both ways.

Barnes signed a four-year $94 million contract with the Dallas Mavericks in July 2016, right after Golden State Warriors signed Kevin Durant. He knew that the arrival of the All-Star Durant means that he lost his spot as the starter. He followed Andrew Bogut which has been traded earlier by the Warriors to Dallas Mavericks.

He had trouble adjusting in his new team as reported by CBS Sports. In the pre-season games he only averaged 6.9 points and 3.3 rebounds per game, shooting 26.7 percent and 16.7 percent from behind the curve.

However, as the regular season began, his adjustment is finalized. In the opening game against Indiana Pacers he made 19 points and 9 rebounds. But he was unable to lift the team as they were defeated 121-130.

Despite the team condition, Barnes continue his scoring prowess throughout the games. He scored the highest 34 points in an 86–75 overtime win over the Milwaukee Bucks on Nov. 6.
