UFC 205 is coming soon and it's hyped to be a big event not only in MMA but even in combat sports. As McGregor face Alvarez for the lightweight title looms, the odds show signs that McGregor could end up with two titles in different weight classes at the end of the fight.
The world's biggest MMA competition finally stages its first fight in New York and the fight card promises it could be the biggest event for UFC in 2016. According to CBS Sports, UFC 205 in Madison Square Garden in New York will feature three title fights including the highly touted lightweight battle between Conor McGregor and Eddie Alvarez.
Betting odds are on McGregor's side since he's currently at -140 but his edge is small against Alvarez's +110 betting odds. With the slight betting odds, Alvarez could actually pull an upset against the crowd favorite McGregor. Just like Holly Holm's big upset over Ronda Rousey, the current lightweight champion could emerge as the winner.
According to Fox Sports, Alvarez could upset McGregor if he takes full advantage of his current skills. He has to take advantage of his takedowns while working McGregor standing up. McGregor is known for his powerful punching power and Alvarez should avoid standing up for a very long time - his boxing skills is useful for setting up more takedowns against the Irish champ.
UFC 205 is considered an historic event in not only for the sports organization but also for MMA. After years of legal battle, the state has finally legalized MMA last April. UFC immediately set-up a fight card that features multiple title belts including Alvarez and McGregor.
Aside from Alvarez and McGregor, UFC 205 will also feature the female straw weight title fight between two Polish fighters: Joanna Jedrzejczyk and Karolina Kowalkiewicz. Tyron Woodley will also defend his welterweight title against Stephen Thompson.
UFC 205 is going to be one of the biggest MMA event of the year featuring three title fights. With all eyes on McGregor, Alvarez could pull an upset against the popular fighter especially when he takes advantage of his wrestling skills by using his boxing as a set-up.
