DC has been getting more and more development in the movie business ever since the releases of "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" and "Suicide Squad." Besides "Justice League" and "Wonder Woman" being next in line for DC-related releases, director James Wan will helming the movie that stars Jason Mamoa as the king of Atlantis "Aquaman." Reports have confirmed that Mamoa will also have a leading lady played by "Magic Mike XXL" actress Amber Heard as the beautiful but fierce Queen Mera.

For those who don't know, Queen Mera is the co-ruler of Atlantis in the DC universe and wife to Arthur Curry (better known as Aquaman). Like the Lord of the Seas, Mera is known to exhibit enhanced strength and the ability to live and breathe underwater. Being both a noble and a warrior, the Queen of Atlantis has been to be a strong character yet also an elegant, feminine figure. Many times, she and Aquaman have encountered numerous love-hate relationship moments that will make it interesting in the upcoming DC films.

According to Bustle at the Australians in Film Awards, the director will be using the relationship of the Atlantean heroes as a plot point or at least a notable element in the film, emphasizing the "hate-turned-love" dynamic between the couple. Wan mentioned that he plans the film to possess some sort of a "classic action-adventure-romance aspect." He used the example of "Raiders of the Lost Ark" and "Romancing the Stone" and blending those two movies together.

Now, pointing out the love-hate relationship between the two, Mamoa mentioned that the movie "starts off initially with them not quite clicking with each other." But as the movie progresses, the duo would eventually get closer and "learn to try and work together."

IGN mentions that the director is very impressed and excited on how this would turn out, especially with the character of Queen Mera being incredibly strong. Wan proudly expresses that the Queen of Atlantis is "very powerful" that anyone would think twice before "[messing] with her."  In addition to that, Mera's "feminine quality" will also balance that off and Mamoa's character of being like a "muscular machine."

"Aquaman" will hit theaters on July 27, 2018.
