According to Variety, Weisz will play the titular character Ronit Krushka in "Disobedience." She is to play the role of a lesbian daughter. Meanwhile, McAdams will play the role of the childhood best friend of Krushka named Esti.

"Disobedience" follows the story of Krushka visiting her Orthodox Jewish home after learning about the death of her estranged father. Krushka reignites a forbidden love affair with Esti resulting to an upheaval in the quiet and conservative community. Esti is married to Krushka's cousin.

"Disobedience" is an adaptation of the novel of the same name by author Naomi Alderman, Entertainment Weekly reported. It will be helmed by the "Gloria" helmer Sebastian Lelio. It will be based on a script co-written by Lelio and "Secret Diary of a Call Girl" writer Rebecca Lenkiewicz.
