"Denial" actress Rachel Weisz is set to produce and star in an adaptation of the Naomi Alderman's novel "Disobedience." She seems to be ready for another film following the opening of her new drama.
According to Variety, Weisz will produce "Disobedience" alongside "11 Minutes" executive producer Ed Guiney through his Element Pictures shingle and "El laberinto del fauno" Award-winning producer Frida Torresblanco through her banner Braven Films and Film 4.
"Disobedience" follows a young lesbian daughter Ronit Krushka (Weisz) returning to her Orthodox Jewish home after learning about the death of her estranged father. Krushka causes an upheaval in the quiet community when she rekindles a repressed love with her best friend. Her cousin is the husband of her lover.
"Disobedience" will be directed by the "Gloria" director Sebastian Lelio. It will be based on a script co-written by Lelio and "Secret Diary of a Call Girl" writer Rebecca Lenkiewicz.
Weisz recently played the role of Deborah E. Lipstadt in Mick Jackson's "Denial," starring "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" actor Timothy Spall. The plot is about Lipstadt being accused of libel by David Irving (Spall) when she declared him a Holocaust denier. It recounts Lipstadt's legal battle for historical truth against Irving, Deadline reported.
Weisz has previously produced Tom Fisher's "Radiator." She has been very active in 2016 starring roles in Derek Cianfrance's "The Light Between Oceans" that opened last month. She recently starred in "The Lobster" opposite "Solace" star Colin Farrell.
Weisz won an Academy Award in 2005 for her role in "The Constant Gardener." She recently wrapped production on the Fox Searchlight film "My Cousin Rachel" with "Me Before You" leading man Sam Claflin. She is also made appearances in James Marsh movie "The Mercy" opening next year.
"Disobedience" is expected to start production in the first quarter of 2017.
