NBA Trade Rumors: J.R. Smith comes back to Cavaliers, but his game has not returned yet

Cleveland Cavaliers finally re-sign J.R. Smith and play him in their last preseason game against the Wizards on Tuesday. But he has not returned to his game yet. The Cavaliers loss in the 6th preseason fame.

J.R. Smith used to be a strong guard and a prolific scorer, but he hasn't come back to that form as the Cavaliers loss 91-96 in their sixth preseason game, as reported by Cleveland.com. Cavaliers run a three losing streak in the preseason games after they loss 108-118 against Chicago Bulls and a stunning 94-119 loss against Toronto Raptors.

In the last preseason game, LeBron James and Smith made their first appearance with the team this season. James led the team in scoring with 18 points but the entire team has not shown their championship game yet.

Smith only made 4 points in 12 minutes playtime. Clearly he has not come back to his game as head coach Tyron expected of him before the game.

He is the best three-point shooter that Cavaliers have with 39.4 percent accuracy in the Cavaliers and making 2.6 three-pointers per game, according to Bleacher Report. Smith is also a strong defender that can guard multiple position, and in his two seasons with the Cavaliers, he was able to make space for other players to score.

His teammate praised him with his ability to score and making space. James said the Cavaliers need player like Smith on court and in the locker room.

"He brings a dimension to our team that we just don't have. He's a two way player," James said. "He's a space guy and a great locker room guy."

During last season's Eastern Conference Finals against the Atlanta Hawks, Smith set a franchise record for Cavaliers. He made eight three-pointers in the Game 1 as he came off the bench and scored 28 points. the Cavs won the first game with 97-89 and swept the other three games to reach the 2016 NBA Finals.
