When AlDub became a thing in 2015, the ratings of the longest-running noontime variety program show in the Philippines "Eat Bulaga" skyrocketed. However, the ratings are recently dwindling even after Maine Mendoza, also known as Yaya Dub, who rose to fame for her Dubsmash videos, just received her first acting award.

Filipinos were polarized when Yaya Dub, Alden Richards' AlDub partner, won the Best Supporting Actress award from the Metro Manila Film Festival 2015 for her performance in "My Bebe Love #KiligPaMore." She beat "All You Need is Pag-ibig" actress Nova Villa, "Haunted Mansion" actress Iza Calzado, "Buy Now, Pay Later" actress Lotlot de Leon and "#WalangForever" actress Kim Molina.

Those who were against Yaya Dub's win were surprised that a newbie beat award-winning actresses and veteran actress like Villa, who won the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Gag or Comedy Program award in 2014 from the Golden Screen TV Awards for her performance in "Pepito Manaloto."

Calzado has 10 acting awards under her belt, including Best New Wave Actress for her performance in "HIV: Si Heidi, Si Ivy at Si V" from the MMFF 2011. De Leon won her first acting award in 2014, which is the Best Supporting Actress award from the MMFF 2014 for her performance in "Kubot: The Aswang Chronicles."

De Leon is one of the adopted children of Nora Aunor, who is one of the most awarded Asian actors with 66 wins under her belt. On the other hand, Molina is a newbie actress just like Yaya Dub.

It was expected that "My Bebe Love #KiligPaMore" would dominate the MMFF 2015 box office because people would become curious about Yaya Dub's acting. However, the film finished second after failing to beat "Beauty and the Bestie" starring Coco Martin and Vice Ganda.

In addition, Yaya Dub's MMFF 2015 win failed to help maintain the status of "Eat Bulaga," in which she and Richards are regular hosts, as the most-watched noontime TV show in the Philippines. Just weeks after the Philippines' Dubsmash Queen received her first acting award, "It's Showtime" slowly climbed and claimed the top spot of the ratings of Filipino noontime TV shows putting its rival "Eat Bulaga" in the second spot.

After 36 years being on air in the Philippines, "Eat Bulaga" reached its peak with 6.2 million viewers on Oct. 24, 2015 but the numbers recently switched to only 2.6 million viewers, according to Inquirer. Currently, the noontime show's first overseas franchise is “Eat Bulaga! Indonesia” airs on ANTV in Indonesia.

On Oct. 26, 2015, Twitter announced that the perennial Twitter trending topic AlDub generated 41 million tweets with their hashtag #AlDubEBTamangPanahon. This broke the record previously set by the World Cup's Germany versus Brazil match in 2014 with 35.6 million tweets, Rappler has learned.
