More light has been shed on the mysterious upcoming game of "Death Stranding" thanks to famed game designer Hideo Kojima. During Sony's Tokyo Game Show (TGS) conference, the genius behind the "Metal Gear Solid" and "Silent Hill" series revealed a little bit more of his chilling new masterpiece.

After his departure from the game company Konami, Kojima unveiled his new game at E3 through a cinematic teaser. With nods to "Silent Hills," his former project that never saw the light of day, the game would be starring "The Walking Dead" actor Norman Reedus once again as the main character.

The teaser showed a CGI-rendered Reedus, naked in the beach, appearing on a beach of black sand naked among the the carcasses of whales dolphins, and crabs. Other noticeable things were the baby he grievingly held in his arms and the dark figures floating in the distance before the title of the game formed.

Other than that information, details on "Death Stranding" is still scarce. The title, however, referred to the phenomenon where whales and dolphins wash up dead on shore, sometimes in masses. According to IGN, Kojima used that terminology for his game. The game designer added that "the title is about something from another world stranded on our world".

As stated by the game designer, "Death Stranding" will be an open-world game, allowing players a lot of freedom with their gameplay. The game will have co-op features as well. For the game's concept and setting, Kojima mentioned that it will contain the same numerous cryptic elements that made up the game's theme from an earlier interview at E3.

According to Wired, the "Silent Hill" game designer also based many of the themes on a short story whom Japanese author and playwright Kobo Abe authored. The theme portrays mankind using sticks as weapons and ropes to bind things together. What this could exactly mean is still yet unknown, but Kojima is sure this would be an impact on the final game.

Planning to accommodate 4K and HDR, Hideo Kojima and his team finally have an engine to begin production, determined to "to prove that indie studios can produce AAA world class masterpieces."
