"Transformers: The Last Knight" has released the first official trailer for the film, giving fans a glimpse at the action-packed robot spectacle. The plot synopsis, released by Paramount, also reveals a surprising new detail to the film.

"The Last Knight' shatters the core myths of the Transformers franchise, and redefines what it means to be a hero," the official synopsis reads. Unlike previous films where humans and Transformers are working together, both species are at war in the fifth film, and Optimus Prime is gone.

Many are noting that "Transformers: The Last Knight" could be the franchise' "Star Wars: The Force Awakens, in that it could breathe life back into the "Transformers" movie franchise and mesh new and old characters.

As to the Optimus Prime's absence, the leader of the Transformers isn't gone for good. He's probably hibernating somewhere, much like Luke Skywalker was in "Force Awakens," and that he will be back to help save humanity once more. Movie Pilot reported that Michael Bay revealed a photo of Optimus Prime for "Transformers: The Last Knight."

Meanwhile, "Transformers: The Last Knight" is said to be Bay's final "Transformers" movie. There have been rumblings that Bay, who directed all five "Transformers" movies, will be retiring from the franchise. Bay himself made it official by announcing his departure on his website.

"This film was especially fun to shoot. But, this time might really be it. So I'm blowing this one out," Bay wrote on his website. Bay has been part of the franchise for over 10 years, and with every movie he always cautioned that it might be his last. However, his desire to make fans happy all over the world has been the one thing that's drawing him back to the director's chair.

"Transformers: The Last Knight" stars Mark Wahlberg, Stanley Tucci, Josh Duhamel, Isabela Moner and Anthony Hopkins. The movie premieres in theaters June 23, 2017.
