One of the mysterious storylines viewers have been following on NBC's This Is Us is the reason behind Jack's early death. While the show has already revealed way back from the pilot episode that he is no longer alive in the present time, flashbacks during his living days make it hard for viewers not to fall in love with his almost perfect personality as a husband and as a father.

In the show's most recent episode, viewers were given a clue that he died when Kevin, Kate and Randall were still on their teenage years. As the series unravels more and more layer from the Pearson family's past, it is only a matter of time before Jack's death will come out in the open.

Star Milo Ventimiglia, for his part, admits that the way the show will reveal his character's fate will be nothing but deeply emotional. In a recent interview with Variety, the actor shared that when he agreed to star on the pilot, he knew that Jack was already dead in the present day - noting that it did not surprise him anymore when creator Dan Fogelman told him how he met his sad fate.

"It's going to break some hearts wide open when it happens, but it's a pretty amazing, magical moment to see what Dan has planned," the actor previewed.

Aside from Jack's funeral scene, viewers are still left in the dark as to whether This Is Us will reveal Jack's death this season or by next year. The series is already renewed for Season 2, so a lot of things may still happen.

Another shocking event that was revealed to viewers last time was about Kevin's past. Apparently, he was married before to a woman named Sophie, who was revealed to be his childhood sweetheart. The show is expected to dive deeper into this part of Kevin's life, as producers of the show has already cast an actress to play a younger version of Sophie.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, The Fosters star Amanda Leighton has signed on to play the character.

An all new episode of This Is Us titled "I Call Marriage" will air on Feb. 7th on NBC.
