"Grey's Anatomy" is about to lose a major character before Season 13 wraps-up.
According to a report from TV Line, actress Jerrika Hinton - who plays Dr. Stephanie Edwards - will not be returning as a series regular on "Grey's Anatomy" Season 14. The reason for her nearing departure is yet to be determined, but the site reports that Hinton has a new untitled project in the works at HBO.
Dr. Edwards was first introduced on the medical juggernaut in Season 12 as one of the new baby interns. Whether or not she will still make an appearance next season is yet to be known as creator/showrunner Shonda Rhimes has not yet released any comments about the issue.
Hinton will not be the first series regular to exit the series unexpectedly. In the past seasons, "Grey's Anatomy" had already lost a long list of fan-favorite characters. The most recent was actress Sara Ramirez who played Dr. Callie Torres. Patrick Dempsey, Sandra Oh, Eric Dane and Chyler Leigh's exits are only among the few that made a strong impact with the show's fanbase.
In other most recent developments, lead actress Ellen Pompeo will make her directorial debut this season on "Grey's Anatomy." According to The Hollywood Reporter, the actress will helm the current season's 13th episode. Plot details about the episode are still being kept under wraps.
The next episode of "Grey's Anatomy" will find Maggie getting a surprise visit from her mother. As previously reported, Maggie's adoptive mother will be played by "Luke Cage" actress LaTanya Richardson. Elsewhere in the hospital, Bailey has to make a difficult decision when one of the attendings refuses to work with Eliza, and Stephanie gets caught up in Owen and Amelia's personal drama.
"Grey's Anatomy" also stars Camilla Luddington, Justin Chambers, Chandra Wilson, Jessica Capshaw, James Pickens Jr. and Jesse Williams. It airs every Thusday at 8PM on ABC.
