It's no secret that "American Horror Story" is one of the shows that invests on their marketing strategy. This became strongly evident on its most recent season, "Roanoke," which compelled fans to draw theories after another from the shady teasers released by FX. On this note, it can be quite surprising to know that the show's creator, Ryan Murphy, is now being more open about developments happening in the future installments.
Following FX's announcement that "American Horror Story" is getting renewed through 2019, Murphy is now revealing details about the previously announced crossover season of the horror-anthology. Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Murphy said that fans should not expect for the crossover to happen anytime soon. However, he did say that a character from Season 1's "Murder House" will play a big role.
"It's a character from season 1 that will be thrust into the world that you are left with at the end of Coven, which is sort of like the male/female/witch academy," the showrunner said.
"And then all of those characters will intertwine, which is confusing because some of them are from seasons 1 and 3. Like, Sarah Paulson will probably be playing 18 characters."
While this new development can once again bring hype to the AHS fandom, a lot of things can still happen in three years. With season 7 still underway, it's still possible that Murphy and his pool of writers would alter some of the plot points revealed this week.
As for the upcoming seventh season, Murphy has already confirmed at the recent Television Critics Association press tour that original cast members Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters will be returning. As to whether it will be set in the past or present, the showrunner revealed that it will take place on a modern day setting.
"American Horror Story launched the modern limited series revolution and - as evidenced by the most recent installment, Roanoke - it remains as vital today as when Murder House stunned audiences six years ago," FX CEO John Landgraf said (via TV Line) about AHS' future seasons.
"We are thrilled that Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and the entire creative team will continue to deliver the groundbreaking, celebrated American Horror Story for years to come."
"American Horror Story Season 7 premieres sometime this year on FX.
