The possibility of a "True Detective" Season 3 has been confirmed by HBO just recently; however, it seems like fans will have to wait a little longer for the next installment as the crime drama is rumored to return to our small screens in 2018.
According to VineReport, HBO programming chief Casey Bloys revealed both Nic Pizzolatto and the TV network are open to the idea of "True Detective" Season 3. Although both parties seem to agree for another season, the creator and HBO have yet to get a square deal of the plan as Pizzolatto is currently committed to work on a "Perry Mason" series which might cause the delay of "True Detective" Season 3.
The upcoming project of Pizzolatto is said to be a reboot of Robert Downey Jr.'s "Perry Mason" film he has been working on for quite some time at Warner Bros, Variety noted. Pizzolatto and Joe Horacek will serve as the executive producers of the upcoming HBO series alongside "Iron Man" star and his wife Susan Downey.
Meanwhile, Downey's participation in "Perry Mason" series will be his first-ever lead role on small screen. Further reports revealed the "Iron Man" star has been wanting to produce a project like "Perry Mason"; however, after his film "The Judge" garnered mixed response from the audience, Downey thought a "Perry Mason" project will do better on the television.
"Perry Mason" is a legal drama series originally aired on CBS from 1957 to 1966, making it one of the longest-running legal series on the small screen. Late actor Raymond Burr played the lead role in the series which won him Emmy Awards for Best Actor in a Leading Role and Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Series.
