More and more users of iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are complaining about unresponsive or less receptive displays. In some cases, the issue manifests itself in the form of gray flickering bar at the top of the display. The number of complaints are increasing as Apple's support forum now hosts a large number of related posts.
The problem seems to go deeper than mere display unit. According to iFixit, replacing the display does not solve the issue as the malfunctioning is most likely caused by the touchscreen controller chips. These chips are soldered to the logic board of the phone. iFixit recommends the infected phones to be replaced if still covered by warranty.
'Touch Disease' is also being connected to another insidious flaw faced earlier by the iPhone viz. Bendgate. The basic structural design defects seem to be behind both the issues, causing the phones to warp and malfunction.
Apple has not released any official statement about the widespread issue. Since the problem afflicts iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, models which are more or less out of warranty window, the users are forced to approach 3rd party repair shops or to buy a new iPhone. The users should note that opting for independent repair shops voids their Apple warranty.
BGR.com reports that the repairing iPhone for 'touch disease' is a lot more complicated than minor issues such as replacing cracked screens. It advises the users to opt for specialized repair services. As the issue is physical in nature, taking good care of phone is likely to help reduce the chances of it occurring.
