"Longmire" Season 5 is set to premiere on Sept. 23 but speculations have been rife that the upcoming season will be its last. Adding more leg to the rumors is Netflix's delayed announcement as to whether the series was renewed for a Season 5 or not.
Rumors suggest that "Longmire" Season 5 finale will see the death of Walt Longmire (Robert Taylor) in the hands of an intruder. It is important to note that in "Longmire" Season 4 finale, Walt was seen inside with Dr. Donna Monaghan (Ally Walker) when an intruder broke into his house.
If Walt will survive the attack, reports claim that Walt will end up with Vic Moretti (Katee Sackhoff). However, the season will see a twist as the couple meets an accident and die after tying the knot. In addition, rumor has it that Walt and Henry Standing Bear (Lou Diamond Phillips) will also end their friendship in "Longmire" Season 5.
Meanwhile, series producer John Coveny is confident that "Longmire" season 5 is not the show's last season, Master Herald reported. He added that there is a lot of stories to tell he even envisions the show to last until Season 5. Rumors surfaced that Netflix was going to cancel the series by the end of Season 4. Because of this, an online petition created by fans managed to convince the network to produce another season.
The original network that aired the first three seasons of "Longmire" was A&E. However, the series was cancelled as it cannot cater to the demographics A&E requires. Netflix then picked up "Longmire" for its fourth season, giving it more freedom to showcase darker plots and violent scenes until "Longmire" Season 5.
"Longmire" Season 5 and "La Bamba" actor Phillips posted on Instagram a hint that there might be a series Season 6. However, Netflix has not given any confirmation of a renewal or cancellation after the series' Season 5 yet.
