In its fourth season, CW's period drama"Reign" has already lost some key characters. However, the producers are confident that the series will continue to air in CW.

"Reign" will enter its fourth season despite rumors that  the series will be discontinued. Following the Season 3 finale, the series lost two leading characters as King Francis, played by Toby Regbo, was killed while trying to save Queen Mary from an ambush by the Protestants. Another cast, Torrance Coombs left the series to join ABC's new program "Still Star-Crossed," according to Scoop Everyday.

The series suffered low rating in its Season 3 finale with only 30 percent in viewers rating. As an effort to boost the rating, the show casts new characters and intricate the plot, including introducing new suitors for Queen Mary.

One of the suitors, Lord Darnley, is an ambitious person who desperately seek Queen Mary's hand in marriage. The other suitor is Bothwell, a bad boy who fell in love with a widowed queen. Prince Claude also has new suitor, Gabriel, the son of Stéphane Narcisse.

In order to complicate the plot, Queen Mary is once again entangled in a love triangle. "Reign" Season 4 will also continue the threat from Queen Elizabeth I of England to contend Scotland's throne. This will force Mary to look for new allies to defend her throne.

Even though the producers are optimistic with the future of "Reign," the upcoming season will be the shortest of all the seasons, as it is reported that Season 4 will only air 16 episodes. Furthermore, the release date of "Reign" Season 4 will also be pushed back to 2017, thus, leading to speculations that this season will be the last for the series.

"Reign" is a fictional historical drama about Mary Queen of Scots and her early reign in Scottish throne. Young Australian actress Adelaide Kane played Mary, while Will Kemp is cast as Lord Darnley and Adam Croasdell plays Bothwell.
