Oscar-nominated film director and former Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences president Arthur Hiller has passed away at the age of 92. The academy announced that he died of natural causes. Current academy president Cheryl Boone Isaacs expressed her grief and recalled Hiller's dedication and passion towards filmmaking.
Hiller passed away on August 17, Wednesday, at the age of 92 due to natural causes. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences released a statement paying tribute to the renowned filmmaker. According to The Antigua Observer, the current president, Isaacs, spoke in behalf of the aorganization expressing their grief over the loss of another great talent. She recalled how she witnessed Hillers' dedication towards the academy during his presidency, and how passionate he was with his craft.
Hiller has directed over 30 films from 1957 through the year 2006. He has explored and succeeded in various genres including, but not limited to, drama, comedy, satires and war stories. His films were also nominated for 15 Academy Awards, wherein two had won. His biggest success was his 1970 film, "Love Story," which won an Oscar award and garnered seven academy nominations including best picture and Hiller as best director.
In memory of Hiller and to pay tribute to his works, The Hollywood Reporter recently posted an article featuring "Love Story" as part of Hollywoods' 10 Favorite Movie Quotes. The saying "Love means never having to say you're sorry" became one of the most parodied love quotes in the 1970's that has remained significant up to this time.
