The Crossing, an upcoming Chinese movie about the revolutionary period in China, unveiled posters featuring its cast members.

The official Weibo page of the movie also posted that The Crossing is set to premier on December 2, 2014 in China. Along with the announcement is a tagline that said, "Go back in time before the new year".

The film, written by Hui-Ling Wang and directed by John Woo, follows the story of three different couples and is based on the real-life event of the sinking of the steamer "Taiping" when it was on its way to Taiwan from mainland China in 1949. The tragic accident claimed the lives of more than 1,500 people who were aboard the two vessels that collided.

Director John Woo is a notable Hong Kong-based filmmaker known for his movies like A Better Tomorrow, Hard Target, and The Killer. In a trailer-slash-interview for the movie, Woo expressed that the film was about having the hope that things will turn out well in the end, in spite of it seeming unlikely in the present. He also said it was about faith that love can withstand all tempests thrown against it and that life should be lived to the fullest.

The movie stars Song Hye Kyo as Zhou Yunfen, a rich widow who has to adapt to the harsh circumstances around her after losing her husband. Other notable actors in the film are Zhang Ziyi, Takeshi Kaneshiro, Huang Xiaoming, and Masami Nagasawa.

The film was produced by Beijing Gallop Horse Film & TV Production, China Film Group, Zhejiang Huace Film & TV, and Lion Rock Productions.
