According to the family of Grimmie, the singer was working on a four-part music video series to accompany her Side A EP titled "The Ballad of Jessica Blue." It sets the story of Jessica Blue, a character whom she personally plays, on her journey to finding her inner voice and path in life. Upon her journey, she soon discovers that what she is searching for lies within herself. USA Today reported that Brian Teefey, the singer's manager, took to Twitter the news about releasing the videos on August.

According to Teefey, Grimmie filmed the music videos for four days allotting six hours of choreography per video before she left for her "Wildfire" tour. The team and her family wanted to release "The Ballad of Jessica Blue" in order to pay tribute to the singer and continue her inspiring legacy in the music industry.
