'Train to Busan' reaches nine-million mark of moviegoers, breaks box office record

"Train to Busan," a zombie apocalypse film, reportedly drew many moviegoers to the theaters and has broken the box office record.

Accordingly, the number of people who have watched the much-talked about film has exceeded the expectations making the most recent number a new milestone for the film. The latest aggregate data from the Korean Film Council said that "Train to Busan" attracted a total 9,000,547. The latest number of moviegoers recorded was 462, 035 making the film reach its nine-million mark, All KPop reported.

Reports say that the latest milestone for "Train to Busan" is also remarkable because it has surpassed the other films like "Veteran" and "Assassination" when it came to how fast the nine-million mark was reached.

"Train to Busan" drew more than five million moviegoers in the first five days of the film, which was another record for the South Korean box office, Star 2 reported. it was release last July 22 and made its international premiere at the Cannes film festival last May.

"Train to Busan" was directed by Yeon Sang-ho and is set inside a bullet train travelling from Seoul to Busan. However, a couple of people become infected by the undead so the living passengers try to outsmart and outlive them. The leading stars in the film are Goon Yoo, Ma Dong-seok, Jung Yu-mi and Choi Woo-shik.

According to reports, Hollywood is eyeing to remake the film and two major studios namely 20th Century Fox and Sony Pictures are interested. France's biggest studios are also offering to make a remake of the flick as studios like Canal Plus, EuropaCorp, and Gaumont have expressed their interest.

It is possible that the French studios will get a chance to remake "Train to Busan" as an executive producer of the movie believe that France uses bullet trains as much as Korea does.
