In recent interviews, "Avatar" director James Cameron explains the reason behind "Avatar 2" premiere delay and how the "Avatar" franchise has expanded to "Avatar 5."

Cameron revealed that the delay of "Avatar 2's" premiere is because he didn't want the movie to compete with fellow blockbuster movie, "Star Wars," Ecumenical News reported. The 8th instalment of "Star Wars" is set to premiere in December 2017, the same initial target date for "Avatar 2."

Cameron shared in an interview that aside from the "Star Wars" clash, "Avatar 2" is premiering later than planned because he wanted to take time to meticulously produce the films. In fact, the first installment of "Avatar" took 15 years to be produced before it was seen in theaters.

Cameron first had to create a completely unique world and language, and he had to wait for the appropriate technology to produce the audio and aesthetics he desired. He called it a "truly massive cinematic process," despite "the limitation of [film as an] art form."

Luckily for fans, Parent Herald reported that Cameron has authored four films worth of the "Avatar" storyline. He revealed that he just finished writing "Avatar 4" and is in the process of polishing "Avatar 5," because he had another writer draft it for him.

Cameron didn't deny that throughout the movie production, he worked with other writers who "fed [him] what they could," resulting to over a "thousand pages" worth of literature. During this year's CinemaCon, it was revealed that the rest of the "Avatar" movies will be shown two years apart from each other. That said, should "Avatar 2" be shown sometime in 2018, the rest of the movies will be shown in 2020, 2022, and 2024, respectively.
