Shun Oguri is adding another stellar character on his long list of acting projects. The Japanese actor was casted as Hisashi Sawamura for the live action adaptation of hit manga series, "Museum - The Serial Killer is Laughing in the Rain."

The original manga series was written by Ryosuke Tomoe and it appeared on Weekly Young Magazine starting 2013. It falls under the suspense-horror genre and openly explores often taboo themes such as procurement of "dogfood punishment" (punishment of knowing a mother's pain).

The live-action will follow Sawamura, a detective for the Metropolitan Police Department's Homicide Section 1, according to JPop Asia. He will try to unravel the mystery of a serial killer hiding under a cartoonish frog mask who has been involved in a series of gruesome murders across the city. While trying to uncover the mystery, Sawamura will discover that the killer is coming for his wife.

The film adaptation will be directed by Keishi Otomo. He is responsible for the Rurouni Kenshin films that ended the saga last year.

Anime News reported that the cast has undergone principal photography last month, so filming should begin anytime soon. The film is expected to have its premiere in Japan next year.

Oguri is no stranger to live actions. In the past, he top-billed popular adaptations including "Hana Yori Dango," "Lupin III," "Crows Zero," and, most recently, science fiction film "Terra Formars."

The actor is also known for his appearances in Detective Conan special live-action adaptations as Shinichi Kudo in 2006 and 2007.
