Fans know that Sony has cancelled the third installment of the "Amazing Spider-man," but only a few really know why. The first reboot, starring Andrew Garfield, happened because the original director, Sam Raimi, decided to withdraw due to several studio issues; however, since the film received poor responses from the fans, Sony had to make another bold move to discuss another reboot with Marvel Studios.

Reports via Movie Web reveals that despite Garfield's version of the "Amazing Spider-man" garnering more or less $700 million worldwide, it still fell as the least amongst all other Spiderman installments. Sony believed that the results were not enough to justify the continuation of the franchise so they had to let it go.

Garfield expressed his disappointment when he knew that the franchise wasn't going to have its third. The same source reports that if the third installment did materialize, it would likely lead to a Sinister Six storyline, following the death of Gwen Stacy. But it looks like Sony is still pushing for it to happen after they revealed that Michael Keaton might take on the character of "The Vulture" in the reboot "Spider-man: Homecoming," who is known to be an original member of the Sinister Six.

Meanwhile, fans have already gotten their wish for Spider-man to be part of the Avengers universe when he made his first debut appearance as the young Peter Parker in "Captain America: Civil War." Tom Holland, the actor who will play the younger version of Spidey in "Spiderman: Homecoming," gained promising comments from fans. Sony believes that he will likely save the franchise.

Sony also reveals via Cheat Sheet that they were going to pursue building a Spider-man Universe and were already working with Marvel Studios to make that happen.
