S.M. Entertainment has filed cases against Chinese former EXO members Kris, Luhan and Tao for allegedly breaching their contracts.

In a statement, the South Korean entertainment agency announced that it has filed 14 new cases in China against the trio for leaving EXO without the approval of the company. The company also claims that the trio engaged in entertainment activities that are not covered by their contracts.

S.M. Entertainment has vowed to take all necessary legal measures to ensure that other companies are not exposed to the fraudulent activities of the trio. The company also wants Kris, Luhan, and Tao abide by the contracts that they signed. The company maintained that until there is an official court ruling, the three stars are contractually bound to S.M. Entertainment, and they are not allowed to engage in unsanctioned entertainment activities.

Kris, Luhan, and Tao have filed lawsuits petitioning the courts to rule on terminating their contracts with S.M. Entertainment.

Kris filed his petition May 2014 stating that the entertainment agency treated him like an object and not an individual. He further claims that he was never consulted on his schedules, and the agency showed no consideration to his health. Kris left Korea shortly after filing the case and went to China.

S.M. Entertainment filed a lawsuit in a court in Beijing on July 3, 2015, against Kris and all the Chinese companies who were working with him. According to the agency, the activities of the singer infringed on the rights of S.M. as well as the members of EXO and as a result, they suffered huge financial losses. The company described Kris' move as unethical and a betrayal of trust.
