EXO's Lay won the Best Supporting Actor award at the 2016 China Britain Film Festival on Sunday in London. Lay won the award for his role in the Ex-Files 2 movie.

The award is the first for S.M. Entertainment's Lay since he started acting and focusing on his career in China.

The actor was unable to attend the 2016 China Britain Film Festival due to a scheduling conflict with his promotional activities with EXO. The award was, therefore, accepted on his behalf by director Tian Yusheng. Tian stated that Lay's acting is natural and that he is very humble.

The film Ex-Files 2 was a box office s

uccess in China and raked in roughly around 100 million Yuan ($15 million) after showing for three days. That figure was doubled after the tenth day.

Ex-Files 2 tells the story of an attractive director's assistant and her plot for revenge against an aspiring actor who toyed with her emotions to further his ambitions. The movie was officially released in China in November 2015 and performed way better than its prequel, which grossed a total of 130 million Yuan ($20 million).

The award comes at a good time for Lay, and could very well establish him as an actor to contend with in China.

Lay, who is a member of the popular boy group EXO, is well-known as a singer. He started in the music industry after participating in a Chinese talent show in 2005 where he won third place. Lay signed with S.M. Entertainment in 2008 and joined EXO in the year 2012. He has won several awards in Asia due to his work in music and was even hailed as Asia's Most Influential Artist at the Asian Influence Awards in 2015.
