Chinese Movies Delay Release Dates to Make way for Hollywood Blockbusters in June

Several Hollywood films will be premiering in China in the month of June. As a result, many Chinese movies are delaying their release dates to avoid clashing in the box office with these Hollywood blockbusters.

Some of the Hollywood movies that will be showing in China in June are X-Men: Apocalypse, which is directed by Bryan Singer, Warcraft, which stars Daniel Wu, Independence Day: Resurgence, which features Angelababy and Finding Dory, the sequel to the hit Finding Nemo.

Since these Hollywood movies are likely to attract lots of cinema-goers, many Chinese distributors have decided to steer clear of them and delay their release dates.

Bi Gan's art film Kaili Blues is one of the films, whose release date has been pushed back. The movie was originally slated for release on June 3. However, its release has now been postponed to July. The release of Shin Terra's Bounty Hunters, which stars the popular Lee Min-ho and Wallace Chung, has also been moved from June 9 to July 1.

Another film, whose release has been postponed, is One Night Only. The film, which stars Aaron Kwok and Yang Zishan and is directed by Wu Zhongtian, has been moved from June 9 to sometime in the last week of July.

Internationally acclaimed director Johnnie To's film, Three, will also not go head-to-head with the Hollywood blockbusters. Three's original release date was on June 24, but news has it that it has been moved to July. However, no announcements regarding the movie's exact release date have been made.

Many Chinese distributors feel that people would get to see new Chinese films in July, rather than in June, when Hollywood films are expected to dominate cinemas. More Chinese movies are expected to change their premiere dates in the following days.
