Joaquin 'El Chapo' will make his presence in a Brooklyn federal court in New York on Friday. The Mexican ill-famed drug lord has been charged with many cases including murder aside from the extensive smuggling transaction.

US Attorney Robert Capers of the Eastern District of New York said that the charges filed against him would least bear sentence life in jail. 'El Chapo' Guzman was turned over to the US custody last month after confirming that once convicted, he will not be sentenced to death.

The 59-year-old 'El Chapo' will appear in court by video as first ruled by a US judge, however, the ruling was reversed when Guzman's attorneys appealed to reconsider. His attorneys debated that without their client's presence, it will become biased while creating the impression of him being too threatening to show up at the hearing, CNN reported.

For many years, Guzman has been playing hide-and-seek with the authorities. His first jailbreak was in January 2001 where he rode a laundry cart to escape prison but was arrested on Feb 14. On July of 2015, he was able to slip against the maximum security of the Altiplano federal prison in the vicinity of Toluca, Mexico. He inched his way into the hole from the shower area of his prison block heading to a tunnel which is a mile in length but was captured again on January 16.

According to Pix11, prosecutors called 'El Chapo' as the manager of the 30-year drive of smuggling, ruthlessness, and extortion. These factors have influenced the scourge of cocaine exploitation and other relevant disorder in the US during the 80's and 90's. But the defenses responded that no such acts of illegality have been proven. He has also been recognized as Sinaloa Cartel leader.

On Friday hearing, 'El Chapo' will personally appear to defend himself and let the court hear his side. When he was extradited to the US he already pleaded not guilty.
