Bollywood star Amitabh Bachchan was honoured with Lifetime Achievement award at the recent NDTV Indian of the Year Awards that were held on Feb. 2, Tuesday. He was among the many Indians who have been recognised for their work in various fields.

Amitabh, who has been a part of Indian entertainment industry for more than four decades, was honoured for defining and redefining the Hindi cinema. Receiving the award at the stage, the actor expressed his happiness and gratitude. "I am grateful that even at this age, I still get to do some wonderful interpretations of different kind of roles that directors write for me. Thank you so much," Amitabh said while receiving the award (via Zee News).

He even said that he has been lucky to have worked with "four-five generations of artists" in the industry. "With each generation I learnt something new and that has always been very helpful in the journey forward," the "Wazir" actor added.

For the award function that was held at Taj Palace, New Delhi, Amitabh was accompanied by his wife, also a Bollywood actress Jaya, his daughter Shweta and his son Abhishek. "I don't know whether I thought he will change or redefine the scenario of Hindi film industry but I always knew he had the talent to be one of the best actors of the country," Jaya said speaking at the occasion. Meanwhile, actor's son said that Amitabh is the world's best father.

Amitabh is often referred to as the greatest actors in the history of Indian cinema. He has been honoured with some of the most prestigious awards in India. He is the winner of three National Film Awards as Best Actor for his roles in the movies "Agneepath," "Black," and "Paa." He is also a recipient of Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan, one of the highest civilian awards in Indian Honour System.

He has also been recognised by the Government of France with the highest civilian honours, Knight of the Legion of Honour. Apart from his film career, he also made big in television as a host of "Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC), the Indian version British television quiz show "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?"

Tennis champion Sania Mirza and Badminton pro Saina Nehwal, Bollywood actors Deepika Padukone, Irrfan Khan, Ranveer Singh and Siddharth were also among some other award winners at the NDTV Indian of the Year Awards. Flipkart co-founder Sachin Bansal, Paytm founder Vijay Shekhar Sharma, Snapdeal co-founder Kunal Bahl, Zomato founders Deepinder Goyal and Pankaj Chaddhah, Quikr Founder Pranay Chulet and Inmobi co-founder are some of the other names to receive the honour.
