Dynamic Duo, one of South Korea's top hiphop performers, together with popular K-pop icon, Chen from EXO, have recently dropped the music video for their collaborative single, "Nosedive." The track was released Monday, Jan. 23, and was praised by music charts and fans alike for its lyrical wonder and minimalist hiphop melody, while the MV itself was noted for its simple yet poignant message.
What to expect from 'Nosedive'
Dynamic Duo, which is composed by artists Gaeko and Choiza, were the lyrical masters behind "Nosedive." EXO's Chen, meanwhile, lent his powerful vocals to the track, the first of Amoeba Culture's upcoming Mixxxture project, according to Korea Times.
Amoeba Culture was founded by the Dynamic Duo in 2006 and houses several successful Korean artists like Primary and Crush.
"Nosedive" is a poignant hiphop track which seeks to drive home a motivational message to its fans. It's noted by several reviews for its wordplay as well as the trio's expressive vocals. The lyrics, in particular, were lauded for its powerful message: "Everyone is going on their own path / But only I'm stuck in place / Will I ever be okay / I always ask myself." Chen's sweet vocals perfectly balance out the Dynamic Duo's heavier, grungier raps, Billboard reported.
Chen, whose real name is Kim Dong-jae, has always been one of the more talented members of his home band, EXO. He has also since expanded his career into musicals, although still very much active with EXO, which recently swept Daesangs during the year's awards season.
Music video for 'Nosedive'
Meanwhile, the music video for "Nosedive" did not feature either of the Dynamic Duo nor Chen. However, it was still well-received because of its soothing and comforting imagery. The MV, which was released on Youtube, is rather minimalistic, as it only featured an elderly man running through a field. He also stops and takes notice of the beautiful landscape around him, all the while dancing and sitting on a chair and and casually making a beat on a pair of bongos, according to Soompi.
