Prospective Tesla car buyers should shop elsewhere if they expect to have a future-proof car as CEO and Founder Elon Musk said that their vehicles will have major revisions every 12 to 18 months. He said that it is a trade-off that the company is willing to take to bring innovative advancements to the next level.

Elon Musk said this statement as a reply to a tweet coming from an owner of an older Tesla car model who is requesting to get the latest sensors and advancements in his car, Nasdaq reported. Musk, who is the CEO and co-founder of Tesla replied that the company will never stop innovating. He even said that people are buying the wrong car if they want a future-proof car since they plan to bring major revisions to their vehicles every year.

Traditional car makers like Toyota, Ford, and GM typically brings revisions to their cars every five years on average, making Tesla's pace of upgrade a more aggressive one, Tech Crunch reported. Traditional automakers also only bring minor revisions to their vehicles during this time period. Some owners might get frustrated with the notion that Tesla cars will get major revisions in a pace as fast as smartphones get updated especially considering that buying a car is a big investment.

However, Must said this is a trade-off that they are willing to take to make sure that they keep pushing the boundaries of innovations and advancements. He said that Tesla's HW2 models will soon get autopilot capabilities. He also promised to raise the limitations of their cars' auto steer, which is only up to 45 mph to make it through the heavy traffic on highways.

The HW2 is an 8.1 update model for the company's earlier self-driving electric cars. The update was rolled out last October in-line with its Enhanced Autopilot system. Tesla has also recently announced the development of its supercharge network, which will enhance the long distance travel experience of the drivers.

Meanwhile, Musk said that updating older cars with their new HW2 kit would mean stripping the entire car down to its frame, along with changing more than 300 parts of the vehicle. It would also make it difficult for Tesla to bring advancements to their products if they focus on retrofitting older cars with newer updates. Tesla cars are not future-proof, but its advancements are definitely expected to happen in a very fast pace.
