The SBS mermaid drama, "Legend of the Blue Sea," is near the end of its run. However, there's still a lot going on for beloved characters Joon Jae (Lee Min Ho) and Shim Chung (Jun Ji-hyun). Spoilers for the "Legend of the Blue Sea" finale hinted that Shim Chung might eventually return as a mermaid, while serial killer Ma Dae-young and his crime partner Kang Ji-yeon may reunite in the series finale.

The latest episode of "Legend of the Blue Sea," Episode 19, kicked off to a highly charged scene as Shim Chung jumped in front of a bullet to save Joon jae, who was shot by his enraged stepbrother Chi Hyun (Lee Ji-hoon). Shim Chung was, and got himself arrested alongside his mother, according to IB Times-Singapore.
Regardless, fans were happy to see Joon jae and Shim Chung reaffirm their love for one another during the "Legend of the Blue Sea" Episode 19. During their last embrace, Joon jae promised Shim Chung that his love for the mermaid transcends even that of their lifetime, and that once they are reborn again, he would search for her again.
What to expect from 'Legend of the Blue Sea' Episode 20
The upcoming "Legend of the Blue Sea" Episode 20 will also be the show's series finale. According to Drama Beans, the finale is expected to show the couple's fate, including the possibility that Shim Chung might return to being a mermaid.
Another theory that persists among fans is that criminal masterminds Ma Dae Young and Kang Ji Yeon might have their final reunion before they meet their end. This is due to the revelation that fan favorite and conman Nam Joo was actually a good guy who went around punishing other bad guys in the past, according to IB Times-India
The "Legend of the Blue Sea" series finale is also expected to explain why Yoo-na can hear the mermaid's thoughts even though they are not related. The fantasy ending will air on Jan. 25, Wednesday, on SBS.
