Samsung may give its customers a surprise with the Galaxy S8 that is rumored to come without camera bump. Meanwhile the camera in Samsung Galaxy S8 will be ble to work with Bixby, Samsung’s AI digital assistant.
According to Phone Arena, the speculation was triggered by the post in the Chinese social network system Weibo. The post compared the camera bump between Samsung Galaxy S6, S7 and the supposedly Galaxy S8. However, Phone Arena questioned the credibility of the comparison due to several inaccuracies, such as the wrong size of the image of Galaxy S6 and S7.
Therefore, it is not clear whether the Galaxy S8 is really without camera bump. It seems the customers must wait until March to see the real Galaxy S8 in action.
Furthermore, the company also plan to utilize the camera to work with its digital assistant Bixby. The camera will be able to conduct a visual search, which is more advanced than the voice activated digital assistant currenly used by Apple’s Siri, Microsoft’s Cortana, Google’s Assistant and Amazon’s Alexa. According to Daily Mail, this will be the monumental battle for the digital assistant.
Bixby can be activated by opening the app. Once activated, user will be able to search for specific object or use optical character recognition. In order to use new optical character recognition, user will have to point the camera which will read any text captured.
Samsung did not showcase its new Galaxy S8 in the CES 2017 in Las Vegas. The new flagship phone will also not appear in the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in the upcoming February, while other competitors such as LG and Huawei will show off their new smartphone in the event. Samsung is scheduled to reveal Galaxy S8 to public in March 2017.
