‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’ baddie Ben Mendelsohn to star in ‘Robin Hood: Origins’

"Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" baddie Ben Mendelsohn is in negotiations to star in "Robin Hood: Origins." "Margot" helmer Otto Bathurst is directing from the script by "Awake" writer Joby Harold.

According to Variety, Mendelson will play as the villain sheriff of Nottingham in Lionsgate's "Robin Hood: Origins." The feature stars "Kingsman" actor Taron Egerton as the English outlaw Robin Hood. Other cast members reported are "Django Unchained" lead star Jamie Foxx as Little John, "Bridge of Spies" actress Eve Hewson as Maid Marian, and "Fifty Shades of Grey" leading man Jamie Dornan as Hood's half-brother Will Scarlett.

"Robin Hood: Origins" follows Egerton's character Hood. Hood is a war-hardened crusader joining a Moorish commander in an audacious revolt against the corrupt English monarchy.

Leonardo DiCaprio will produce "Robin Hood: Origins" through his Appian Way shingle with "The Revenant" producer Jennifer Davisson Killoran, "John Wick" producer Basil Iwanyk, "Underground" producer Tory Tunnell, and Harold, The Hollywood Reporter reported. Other production companies are Safehouse Pictures, and Iwanyk's Thunder Road Pictures.

Mendelsohn won an Emmy for outstanding supporting actor in Netflix's crime drama "Bloodline" wherein he played as Kyle Chandler's deceased and criminal brother. He was last seen in "Star Wars" prequel "Rogue One" as an Empire official Orson Krennic, which was released on Dec. 16, 2016, and is set to star opposite Gary Oldman in the Winston Churchill movie "The Darkest Hour." The actor is represented by CAA and United Management.

Bathurst is known for directing biography drama "Margot," comedy drama "NY-LON," and horror TV series "Urban Gothic." He won the British Academy Television Awards "BAFTA" for Best Drama Serial in the 10-episode crime drama "Criminal Justice" in 2008 with "Beginning" producer Pier Wilkie and "The Village" writer Peter Moffat.

"Robin Hood: Origins" will be released on March 23, 2018. It will also be released in Imax.
