During the press conference for his upcoming thriller film “The King” held on Jan. 12, Hallyu star Ryu Joon Yeol admitted that he’s got a hard time portraying his role as a gangster in the movie.

"It wasn't the dialect that was hard. What burdened me was the fact that I had to act as a gangster and a detective around three senior actors," explained Ryul, whose character has to speak the Jeolla dialect of the Honam region of South Korea, as quoted by All KPop.

He added: "I didn't want to just portray a typical gangster who just messes around, so I focused more on presenting his vulnerable side as well. I did my best to show both perspectives from a gangster and detective."

“The King” centers on the story of the ambitious prosecutor Park Tae Soo, portrayed by actor Jo In Sung. In the film, Ryul plays the role of Park’s childhood friend Dong Ill, one of Gangnam’s renowned gangster.

Meanwhile, the 30-year-old star was recently reported to star in the upcoming manga-based film “Little Forest”. Joining him in the upcoming motion pictures are actors Ryu Joon Yeol, Kim Tae Ri, and Moon So Ri, All KPop reported.

According to a released statement on January 3: "Ryu Joon Yeol, Kim Tae Ri, and Moon So Ri have been casted and they have immersed themselves in preparing for the official filming."

Before entering the entertainment industry, Ryul was a dedicated and hard-working student who went to college through scholarship and several part-time jobs. He made his acting debut in 2012 and rose to fame through the 2015 teen series “Reply 1988” alongside actors Lee Hye Ri, Park Bo Gum, Go Kyung Pyo, and Lee Dong Hwi.
