The younger of Princess Diana's two sons, Prince Harry, recently revealed his true feelings regarding his mother's death. The red-haired royal opened up in ITV's latest documentary saying he buried his emotions and didn't really want to think about it. Prince Harry, however, also said that continuing his mother's work makes everything else in his life finally make sense.
"I never really dealt with what had happened," the 32-year-old prince said in the documentary. "It was a lot of buried emotion. For a huge part of my life I didn't really want to think about it."
It can be remembered that the prince was 12 years old when Princess Diana met her fatal car crash back in 1997. He told ITV that his mother's mission to make a difference in the lives of those who are vulnerable inspired him. His mother was involved with a lot of charity work when she was still alive and Prince Harry and older brother Prince William find it their task to continue what she has started.
Prince Harry set up Sentebale, the 10-year old AIDS charity he started to remember his late mother, IBT reported. The charity helps children who are affected by the disease and who are in extreme poverty. He said he wanted to make his mother proud and if truth be told, any mother would be proud of their sons if they do what the prince does.
The Prince said the charity made him confront his personal issues saying, "I now view life very differently from what it used to be. I used to bury my head in the sand, and let everything around you tear you to pieces." The prince continued, "The fact that I've managed to keep Sentebale going for the last 10/11 years has been fantastic because now everything else I'm involved with makes sense to me and I'm just getting started."
Prince Harry also said he's lucky to be in a position where he can make a difference. And difference is what he's making. Sentebale already helped 21,000 people since it was founded, BBC reported. The charity aims to expand in other sub-Saharan African countries.
The documentary will air on December 19 and will also feature other British artists such as Sir Elton John, Chris Martin, and Joss Stone.
