"Star Wars: Rogue One" stars Diego Luna and Felicity Jones discussed their respective roles in the upcoming film.

Luna plays Captain Cassian Andor, a spy for the Rebel alliance while Jones plays the titular role of Jyn Erso. Luna said that his character plays an important role in the story. He described his character as someone who has to make the difficult decisions in the middle of a war, Screen Rant reported.

"This thing [death star] is huge and it's got to be stopped. So he has to make choices along the way. And he's a guy that is ready to go all the way for the cause. He's ready to fight for the Rebellion no matter what's in front and he's not going to stop. And yeah, in wat sometimes you have to make terrible decisions. You have to be a part of terrible things in order to bring peace and freedom - at least that's the way he sees it," he explained.

Elsewhere, Jones discussed what makes "Star Wars" different from other "Star Wars" stories. She said that while the film is on a huge scale, the core of it is rooted on a relatable parent/child dynamic.

"... it's an adventure, a quest to understand who you are or to understand that relationship with your parents, she said.

The film is one of the many standalone "Star Wars" films in the pipeline. Creator George Lucas has already seen the film and was reportedly delighted by the modern take on the classic series, Cinema Blend reported.

"Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" tells the story of father and daughter Galen and Jyn Erso. While not much spoilers has been divulged about the film, several critics said that "Rogue One" has addressed one of the franchise's oldest plot hole.

The film opens on Dec. 16, 2016. Watch the trailer of the film below:
