"House of Cards" actor Reg E. Cathey joins the cast of the indie drama "Flock of Four" from "Gloves" director Gregory Caruso. Caruso is writing and being helmed on it.

According to Variety, Cathey will play the legendary bandleader Pope Dixon in "Flock of Four." He will be joined by the newcomers Braeden Lemasters, Uriah Shelton, Isaac Jay, and Dylan Snyder.

"Flock of Four" is based on Caruso's short film of the same name, which he also penned and helmed. It explores jazz and historic Central Avenue in South Central Los Angeles. The script will be co-written by Michael Nader with Caruso.

"Flock of Four" centers around four jazz-loving teenagers who venture from their homes in Pasadena to South Central in order to hear Dixon play a one-night-only show in 1959. The group encounters a side of Los Angeles, culture, and jazz that they never knew existed.

Other cast members of "Flock of Four" include Shane Harper, Coco Jones, Anthony Laciura, Gatlin Green, and Connor Paolo. William Day Frank will produce along with Caruso, who will produce through his production company Bristol Pictures.

Cathey is best known as the Baltimore political operative Norman Wilson in "The Wire" Seasons 4 and 5 and as the owner Freddy Hayes of the BBQ joint favored by Frank Underwood for covert political conniving, The Guardian reported.

Cathey is now such a TV staple that he did not even have to audition for his latest role as Sheriff Giles in Robert Kirkman's "Outcast," starts on Cinemax in the U.S. at 10 pm on June 3, Friday, and on Fox in the UK at 10 pm on June 7.

Cathey earned an Emmy for outstanding guest actor in a drama series in 2015 for his role as Freddy on the Netflix show "House of Cards." He also got nominated for the award in 2014 and this year. He is represented by Paradigm.
