Naughty Dog has finally revealed the biggest new yet: "The Last of Us: Part II" has been finally confirmed! This time you'll be playing as Ellie all grown-up instead of Joel.

As the studio behind the "Uncharted" series released the trailer, it showed Ellie much older than the previous game. In the trailer, she begins to strum her guitar as Joel walks into the house she's in full of dead bodies. Joel, the protagonist from the first game, asks Ellie if she intends to push through with her plan (whatever that is) and she responds with vowing to kill "every last one of them."

Of course, when asked who "they" were, creative director Neil Druckmann avoided the subject directly. But he did mention that the young lady who was the partner of Joel in the first game will instead be the main playable character in "The Last of Us: Part II," as was the case in "The Last of Us" DLC expansion "Left Behind," according to Gamespot.

Along with being undisclosed with the story concept, Druckmann didn't reveal much about the gameplay as well. However, he did note that Ellie "plays different[ly]" than Joel but that's all there is.

Another thing he wanted point out was the contrast between both games. While the first game was all about some sort of a father-daughter love kind of relationship, Druckmann described "Part II" to be "about hate and how we use all of those same things to make the player feel that," therefore being a "counter" to the first.

The creative director mentioned earlier that "The Last of Us: Part II" was "ways off," without a specific release date being announced.

"I can't tell you how satisfying it is to finally be able to say that Ellie and Joel are back for another intense, harrowing, and emotional adventure," said Druckmann in a post. "Like many of you, we have a deep love for the world of The Last of Us and its characters, and while a sequel may have seemed like a foregone conclusion, that wasn't the case. We knew that it needed to be a story worth telling and, perhaps more importantly, a story worthy of Joel and Ellie. After spending years on different ideas (and almost giving up), we finally uncovered a story that felt special--a story that evolved into an epic journey."
