After months of inactivity plus Minzy's exit, YG Entertainment announced that 2NE1 has officially disbanded. Fans of the multi-awarded girl group were caught off guard and shocked by the news.

2NE1 was a solid group during its 7-year run. They delivered some of K-pop's most iconic and recognizable tunes such as "Fire," "I Don't Care" and "I'm The Best." In a statement, YG Entertainment explained that while they are "deeply saddened to let [2NE1] go," the agency believes that it would be better for each member to pursue individual career paths.

According to Billboard, members CL and Dara renewed their contracts with YG Entertainment. However, Park Bom will no longer be managed by the agency. The group's youngest member, Minzy, did not renew her contract with YG Entertainment when it expired earlier this year.

Days after their disbandment was confirmed, Dara, also known as Sandara Park, held back tears when she appeared as one of the judges on the Philippine TV show "Pinoy Boyband Superstar." In a video captured by an audience member, Dara can be seen wiping away her tears and keeping her composure. Previously, Dara and CL wrote a letter to fans to express how sorry and saddened they are about the news.

Meanwhile, Park Bom addressed the disbandment in a letter. As reported by Koreaboo, Park Bom wrote, "Over the past few years, we had been waiting, preparing and working hard to present our fans with many things. But some things in life just haven't gone the way I had truly wished." Park Bom also thanked the fans as well as the rest of 2NE1 for all their memories together.

Park Bom did not provide any reason for not re-signing with YG Entertainment, but it is speculated that it had something to do with her 2014 drug controversy. Her last public appearance was during her performance with 2NE1 at the 2015 MAMA.
