Just days before finalizing her divorce with superstar Johnny Depp, Amber Heard donated $350,000 to the American Civil Liberties Union, which is a charity dear to her heart.
The actress promised in August that she would give the American Civil Liberties Union and the Children's Hospital of Los Angeles the $7 million settlement she would earn from divorcing Depp, Huffington Post reported. However, she has been questioned by the media on why the money hasn't arrived yet to the charities.
The answer is that Depp still hasn't given her the $7 million settlement money. Heard's lawyer, Pierce O'Donnel, told reporters that settlement documents are still due to be signed this week. Depp is obliged to pay Heard, and she will honor her promise to the charities by giving them the money.
But the latest updates show that even before the finalization of the settlement, she has given the American Civil Liberties Union a hefty amount of $350,000, E! Online reported.
Though she hasn't received the $7 million, ACLU confirmed that Heard gave them the first instalment in her name. CHLA also told reporters that they also received the first instalment of Heard's promise, and they are grateful about it.
O'Donnell said that the actress is committed in her advocacy of protecting people who are victims of domestic violence. She is also committed in helping sick children.
She recently released a Public Service Announcement encouraging women to speak up and stand up against domestic violence, which has been destroying the American family for a long time. Her PSA doesn't violate any agreement in her settlement with Depp.
She teamed up with #GirlGaze in a very emotional PSA last weekend to put a stop on violence against women and other domestic abuse. Teary eyed, she said there is shame on being labelled a victim.
If it happened with a stranger, it would be easier to speak out and fight. But when it happens to a loved one and the victim's home, then it's a whole different story, she said.
She also appreciated all the women who supported her during those tough times, saying her life would have been so different if it wasn't for them.
Finally, in the video, she encouraged women to speak up.
