"The Hangover" actor Ed Helms and "Accidental Love" actor Tracy Morgan are up for a game of New Line comedy "TAG." Both will play in undisclosed roles.

According to Variety, "TAG" is based on the true story of an actual group of friends who played a bizarre cross-country version of the venerable kids game Tag for 30 years. It is directed by "The Detour" filmmaker Jeff Tomsic for the New Line studio.

The idea for "TAG" came from The Wall Street Journal feature written in 2013 called "Tag Brothers," Deadline reported. It followed 10 classmates from Gonzaga Preparatory School in Spokane, Washington. After attending school together 23 years earlier, the gang spread across the country in various fields but retained a bond with a version of the classic kids game Tag.

In the plot of "TAG," the gang is not limited to the schoolyard. Each February, they chased each other across the country, breaking into each other's homes, hiding in the bushes until a target appeared, whatever necessary to get the job done. Some scheduled their vacations to avoid at all costs being 'it,' and having to bear that loser title a whole year.

There was a mad rush for their rights, until Broken Road's Todd Garner was told he was it. Garner set "TAG" at the New Line studio.

The script for "TAG" is penned by Mark Steilen and Rob McKittrick. It will be produced by Todd Garner and Sean Robins with Steilen.

Helms is repped by UTA, Principato-Young, and Schreck Rose Dapello & Adams. He can be seen next in Warner Bros.' "Bastards" and most recently appeared in "Love the Coopers."

Morgan is represented by CAA and ML Management. He will next star in another New Line comedy "Fist Fight." To those who are not aware, he was involved in a near-fatal traffic accident that left him in a coma for two weeks.

Tomsic is repped by UTA and 3 Arts. He directed episodes of the TV series "The Detour" and "Wrecked."
