A new "Highlander" comic book miniseries is set to be on the way next year thanks to IDW Publishing.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the "Highlander" comic book miniseries will take before the events of the first 1986 movie. The focus will be around Scottish protagonist Connor MacLeod as he seeks to whatever true nature lies within his being while trying to find a life in the United States of America.
The cult classic film back then in 1986 starred actor Christopher Lambert as the immortal Scotsman from the Middle Ages, Connor MacLeod, who discovers that he is invincible and cannot be fallen in battle. The upcoming comic miniseries by IDW Publishing will serve as prequel that will feature flashbacks and events of MacLeod from the Civil War-era events in Pennsylvania and New York during the mid-20th century.
DW's "Highlander" comic is currently being written by Brian Buckley, while the illustrations department will be taken over by Andrea Mutti. The miniseries prequel is set for release this coming February 2017.
In other news, IGN reported earlier that a remake of "Highlander" is already on the way by Summit Entertainment. So far, no other news have circulated about the remake yet, but rumors state that Tom Cruise might take the role of Connor MacLeod.
Cedric Nicolas-Troyan, a former visual effects supervisor on "Snow White and the Huntsman," is said to helm the project. The director, along with Summit, assures that the movie will be as faithful to the original 1986 version of franchise, faithful to the Russell Mulcahy-directed original.
"Highlander" has already appeared numerous times on the screen, spanning several film sequels, as well as a spinoff television series.
