"The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 might run the rift between Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder in a much deeper course. The series seemed done with any other collaboration between Dobrev and Somerhalder as Elena Gilbert and Damon Salvatore. It packed heat from the Dobrev and Somerhalder reunion angle.
Dobrev left after "The Vampire Diaries" Season 6 finale with Gilbert suspiciously sent under a coma rather than killed off. Her exit interestingly followed her breakup with Somerhalder.
Dobrev highlighted that she is not leaving "The Vampire Diaries" because of her breakup with onscreen love interest Somerhalder. Her exit in the series has nothing to do with their 2013 split. She said that both of them are professionals that they were able to work together in the series after their break up.
Fans were shocked when Dobrev volunteered to do a fresh audio clip for the moment in "The Vampire Diaries" Season 7 finale wherein Somerhalder was to transition Salvatore back to evil. The event resulted to the revelation of the executive producer's planned reunion between Dobrev and Somerhalder when "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 runs.
According to TV Line, many are hoping for a romantic reunion between Gilbert and Damon in "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8. However, Somerhalder is adjacent to the idea. He said that the guys including Damon ruined Gilbert's life, yet everybody wants her to end up with one of them.
Dobrev expressed her happiness when Somerhalder eventually got married to Nikki Reed. She thought it was beautiful because the couple is happy and she is happy as well. She said that the drama is in the media and not with them.
Dobrev reiterated that they did not break up because anything bad happened or there was no love or friendship at all. She loves him, and their friendship is still strong. She cares about him and that did not change, The Huffington Post reported.
"The Vampire Diaries" Season 8 aired on The CW on Oct. 21. Still Dobrev and Somerhalder may surprise the fans.
