"Teenage Dream" singer Katy Perry is taking the lead in helping out organizations like Planned Parenthood after majority of the Americans have decided to put President-elect Donald Trump to the highest position.
On Nov. 11, Katy Perry personally donated $10,000 to Planned Parenthood to show her support to the non-profit organization amid issues regarding funds the group is getting from the government, Billboard reported.
Making her act public, Katy Perry said "it's time to put words into action," adding that this is just the start of showing her support to this kind of organizations.
"I am making a public donation to Planned Parenthood for the teenage me who made several visits to first a clinic in Santa Barbara and then Los Angeles, CA to educate myself on my sexual health, a subject I had little to no information on because of my sheltered upbringing," the singer narrated.
Katy Perry added Planned Parenthood has taught her to know her body and reproductive health to prepare her before having her own family in the future. "Since then, I have been able to focus wholeheartedly on bringing messages of strength and becoming a voice for others. Without this education, I may have had a different life path," she added.
Previously, President-elect Trump commended the non-profit organization for helping millions of American women. However, the newly elected leader reportedly expressed his desire to stop the federal taxpayer funding for the organization.
Sharing her own experience, Katy Perry urged her fans to support such cause and help in any way possible. "I know what it's like to need help. I came from a lower- to middle-class family and never grew up with the option of health insurance," the singer shared, hoping she has inspire her supporters to do the same.
Katy Perry has been vocal about her support to Hillary Clinton over Trump for the presidency, and following the results, the "Roar" singer, among other artists, has expressed her distress about the US election, BBC reported.
The singer even said Trump's election as the new president of the US means "revolution is coming." Aside from Katy Perry, singers including Lady Gaga, Miley Cyrus and Madonna were among those who expressed their disappointment about the election.
