Brooklyn Nets will have to play without their main point guard Jeremy Lin for at least two weeks. He injured his hamstring after 109-101 victory against Detroit Pistons.
Lin was reported to strain his left hamstring in the second quarter, according to CBS Sports. He was out and did not return to game after posting 10 points and 4 assists.
This wil not be a good news for the Nets, since the team is already thin in their back court. Two of their guards, Greivis Vasquez and Randy Foye, were already injured. Foye is recovering and is expected to play this Friday Nov. 4 against the Hornets in a limited time. The other options are Sean Kilpatrick and rookie Isaiah Whitehead.
After Lin was out, Whitehead and Kilpatrick filled in the point guard position. Kilpatrick who was originally a shooting guard was engouraged by head coach Kenny Atkinson to start to play point guard since the summer league according to New York Post.
“As soon as Jeremy went out, I was like, ‘I’m going to have to play the point’ because that was something I did throughout summer league,” said Kilpatrick who posted his first double-double in the game against Pistons with 24 points and 10 rebounds.
Brooklyn Nets posted a 2-3 records in the beginning of the season. The Nets have been struggling to win in their games and Jeremy Lin might become one of their answer.
Lin was a breakout star in New York during 2011-12 season when he played point guard for the Knicks, dubbed as Linsanity. He was named Eastern Conference Player of the Week in February 2012, after averaging 27.3 points, 8.3 assists and 2.0 steals with the Knicks. Lin is known as an excellent point guard in the pick-and-rolls situation as he is a great passer and shooter.
Lin became an unrestricted free agent in July after dismissing his player option for 2016-17 with Charlotte Hornets. Brooklyn Nets that is in need to have a point guard signed him for three years with $36 million contract. Nets expect to reinvigorate the Linsanity in New York after Lin made a strong impact with New York Knicks during 2011-12 season.
