The remarkable play by two NBA superstars Russell Westbrook and LeBron James at the beginning of the regular season earned them the NBA Players of The Week for Western and Eastern Conference respectively.
Both James and Westbrook were named Players of the Week for the games played starting Tuesday, Oct. 25 to Sunday, Oct. 30., according to NBA. They both made a triple-double in the opening games, James made 19 points, 14 assists and 11 rebounds in the Cavs 117-88 win against New York Knicks on Oct. 26. While Westbrook tallied 51 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists in a 113-110 victory over the Phoenix Suns on Oct. 28 after an overtime.
James helped his team to achieve 3-0 record in the opening week of the regular season. He averaged 21.0 points, 10.0 assists and 8.3 rebounds after the first week games. After the triple-double in the first game, he continue to perform well in the next two games, posting 21 points and 23 points against Toronto Raptors and Orlando Magic. Currently, James is the assist leader in Cleveland Cavaliers.
“That’s what makes us dangerous,” the Cavaliers point guard Kyrie Irving said in an interview with Cleveland.com on Monday about LeBron James. “He's playing extremely aggressive when he needs to, picking and choosing his spots and I think we're all doing a great job of that.”
Westbrook’s triple double is a historic one, since that was the first triple double with more than 50 points ever made in four decades. He continued to tally triple double in the 113-96 victory against the Lakers with 33 points, 16 assists and 12 rebounds. That makes Westbrook to become the first player in the history of NBA history to post at least 100 points, 30 rebounds and 30 assists in the first three games of the regular season.
