"Arrival" actor Forest Whitaker joins "Captain America: Civil War" star Chadwick Boseman in Marvel's "Black Panther." "Get Out" actor Daniel Kaluuya, "The Quest" actress Florence Kasumba, and "Modern Family" actor Winston Duke have also joined the cast.
According to Variety, Whitaker will play the role of an elder stateman Zuri in Wakanda in "Black Panther." Kaluuya will play T'Challa (Boseman) confidant W'Kabi. Kasumba will reprise her "Captain America: Civil War" role as Ayo, a member of the body guards Dora Milaje, while Duke will play as the leader M'Baku of a rival Wakandan tribe.
Boseman will play the prince T'Challa of the African nation of Wakanda in "Black Panther." He must take over the throne after his father's murder. His character debuted in Marvel's "Captain America: Civil War" back in May.
"Black Panther" is directed by "Creed" helmer Ryan Coogler. It is not the first time Whitaker and Coogler have worked together. Whitaker produced Coogler's breakout feature "Fruitvale Station," starring "Fantastic Four" star Michael B. Jordan, The Hollywood Reporter reported.
"Amber Lake" writer Joe Robert Cole is co-penning the script for "Black Panther" with Coogler. Marvel Studios' president Kevin Feige is the producer. Other cast members already include Jordan (Erik Killmonger), "The Jungle Book" actress Lupita Nyong'o (Nakia), and "The Walking Dead" actress Danai Gurira (Okoye).
Whitaker is repped by WME and Brillstein Entertainment. He was recently seen in the boxing film "Southpaw" and has been busy with Paramount's "Arrival," directed by Denis Villeneuve and starred Amy Adams and Jeremy Renner. He will also be appearing in Disney/LucasFilm's "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" that opens in December.
"Black Panther" will hit theaters Feb. 16, 2018.
